This week we'll be pushing an update to the Dashboard. This marks the 4th refactoring of the Dashboard in 3 years. We're always looking for ways to improve the organization of the information presented on this information-heavy screen. We're also pushing forward on unifying the information presented on the Dashboard and the Overview screens.
This revision accomplishes a few things:
- The milestones block at the top is cleaner and compartmentalized with a thin grey border.
- It uses the new text labels for each item (milestone, to-do, message, etc.) instead of the older tiny images. This brings the labels inline with the Overview screen.
- The content for each item is now identical to the content we show on the Overview screen. Milestones show due dates, content is truncated at 120 characters instead of 20 characters like it was before, files have icons, etc.
- We've moved the date to the right so the label and the content touch.
- We've upped the font size a bit to make the items more readable.
- This layout makes much better use of horizontal space. The old layout was a fixed width which didn't allow people with wider screens to take advantage of more horizontal screen real estate.
